Yes, this is a tragic loss, Andy.
Arthur C. Clarks was one of those exceptional people who lived deep into the cosmos, for that is where his mind functioned, from where he was able to create those wonderful space odysses we enjoyed so much, and to where his spirit will slowly filter in its long journey, and live forever.

RIP Arthur
"A great loss".... is a much overused phrase when celebrities pass on.
But this is one of those very rare cases where the phrase is an understatement IMHO.
