"Ode to an Astronomer"
When looking through my telescope
One dark and starry night
I bumped the eye piece with my hand
a little to the right
And there before my very eyes
A planet came in view
A disc with towering mountains
and atmosphere so blue
I saw the flowing rivers
and trees that reached the sky
and when I saw the ocean
A ship came sailing by
I can't believe my eyes, said I
A planet wrapped in peace
A distant world so far away
I've found the planet Gliese
And then I woke up from my dream
The sweat was on my brow
Is this what Gliese is really like
As I see it now
But then I know we'll have to wait
The vision was all mine
I'm just an old astronomer
Who lives in space and time.
