With NASA’s $2.5 billion unmanned mission to Mars slated to launch on November 25, and the recent discovery of a potentially habitable planet a mere 35 light years from Earth (203 trillion miles) in the constellation of Vela, scientists may be closer to discovering alien life than ever before. The Mars rover Curiosity However, as Seth Shostak, senior astronomer at the SETI (Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute says, the first life forms we’re likely to encounter won’t be little green men, but nearly invisible microbes. A new world far away But, because these finds will be on planets so close, that diclosure will be enough to finally convince scientists that life is everywhere in the Universe, not only microbotic life, but intelligent life as well. Listening for ET However, if intelligent life does not exist within 150 light years from our Sun, we may never be able to shake hands with ET as didtances would be too great to sustain life support systems and mortality would defeat us. Even a simple message would take centuries to tell them we are here, and even if they did receive it, centuries would pass beore we could receive their reply, and more centuries would pass before they heard us say "Hi ya buddy" To see 12 minute video of our search for extra terrestrial life, just click on the link below, Has sound, Full screen option bottom right. www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=gwsPoAd6SgACredits: These are non copywrite images Text by wikipedia Video by YouTubein
