What is the greatest space achievement after the Apollo Moon series - The ESA Huygens probe landing on Titan. Huygen's probe landing on Titan Without a doubt the Huygens landing galvanized us all. While the Moon is only 250,000 miles away and the astronauts were aboard and controlled the Moon lander's decent, Cassini with Huygens on board was 800 million miles away, and before the decent to Titan, the controllers back on Earth took Cassini through the rings of Saturn to align the probe with Titan, an amazing feat on it's own. Cassini at Saturn Remember everything isn't standing still, indeed Saturn, Cassini and Titan were all whirling round and to make the precise calculations to sit Huygens on Titan where they did was an achievement indeed. Even now after all these years we still ask ourselves - how did they do it?. Saturn from Titan To see video of Huygens landing just click on the link below.
