In centuries hence humankind will have developed those life support and propulsion systems that will allow us to travel to planetary systems deep into the void, to new worlds far away and never to return. By then of course, the candidates will be more defined, but just now, here are 3 interesting systems that we may consider as we format our journey to the stars. Alpha centaurus The closest system to our star is Alpha centauri, 4.3 light years away. A three star system. Types are G2, K1, M5. G2 is similar to our sun. M5 is a small low luminous red dwarf. The Tau Seti system Next is Tau Seti, 11.8 light years away. A single G8 star similar to our sun. High probability of possessing a solar system type multiple planetary system. Gliese 581 system Gliese 581, 20.3 light years away. The unconfirmed xoplanet Gliese 581 and the confirmed xoplanet Gliese 581D are in the star's habitable zone.
