The Chinese space program consists of the China National Space Administration and the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. The Shenzhou spacecraft Shenzhou is a spacecraft developed and operated by the People's Republic to support its manned spaceflight program. Its design resembles the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, but it is larger in size and all-new in construction. The first launch was on November 19, 1999 and the first manned launch was on October 15, 2003. Tiangong 1 Recently China laid out plans for its future in space, unveiling details of an ambitious new space station the Tiangong-1 to be built in orbit within a decade. Proposes China Space ststion The space station will weigh around 60 tonnes and consist of a core module with two laboratory units for experiments, according to the state news agency, Xinhua. China is also developing a cargo spaceship, which will weigh less than 13 tonnes and have a diameter of no more than 3.35 metres, to transport supplies and equipment to the space station. China plans to launch the Tiangong-1 module later this year, to help master docking technologies.
