Hi to this neat forum. My name is Otis and I live in California. I have an old Ultima 11 PEC monster I just love. It's mounted on a massive wedge that I built on the pier that I built in the observatory I built. After I had a stroke a couple of years ago. A doctor I had when in the hospital was so impressed with my attitude and success that he donated the 'scope to me. Had kept it in his attic for ten years unused! Wife bought it as a anniversary gift back in '90 to watch Mars with. Wow!! Just looking to chat with folks who may have the same or similar. They are unique and have quirks. Glad to be on this forum. My Yahoo groups are too huge sometimes. Otis

Welcome to the forum Otis. I'm sorry that you suffered a stroke a couple of years ago and hope you've made a full recovery. I, too had the Ultima 11" SCT - though mine was mounted on the standard equatorial wedge with vibration supression pads. Alas, mainly down to health problems I had to sell it last year - though I enjoyed almost 16 years of happy enjoyment mainly imaging with film & guided by my trusty ST4. It's good to see another Ultima user. Some people seem to change their scopes more often than I change my underwear. ;D

Welcome to the forum Otis. I also had a stroke a few months ago and lost most of my sight. Matter of fact I am writing the text of this message to you using a big magnifying glass. It is amazing how the human body adjusts to adversity and luckily, like yourself, I am able to continue a desent lifestyle by having a positive attitude. My understanding of the Universe has soothed many fears as I have always known how insignificant we really are and this has helped me to accept the position I am in. I hope you can be an active member of this forum and I look forward to your interesting input.

Glactus, although I knew about your stroke, I wasn't aware of its effects on your sight. To put it mildly, I am deeply saddened to hear this - especially as you are the proud owner of a 12" (if I remember correctly) SCT. Is the disability permanent - or is there any possibility, given time, that your sight will improve?

As well as the stroke that took most of my sight. I also had a heart attack 4 weeks later and had to have open heart surgery and a multiple bypass operation. I am gaining strength slowly. I can see a bit. Enough to use a magnifying glass on the computer, send e/mails and serve the net ok. My computer is part of my life as is all matters perrtaining to the Universe and the friends that I make along the way who are entwined in its vastness. The barred spiral

Glad things are improving - albeit slowly. There's nothing quite like the power of positive thinking to help aid recovery.
