In their infinite wisdom - I mean stupidity - the IAU re-classed Pluto from a planet to a planetoid. They have now re-classed it again, this time as a 'Plutoid'. See here for the full story. Whatever next?! Methinks that the IAU has too much time on its hands!

By their definition there is 0 planets. All planets have asteroids with them! What's next? Mercury isn't a plet because there are moons bigger than it? (Somewhat reasonable) And it is eccentrica and inclinated?

Don't worry. They can do and say what they like, but little Pluto will always be the planet Pluto to many Astronomers. It's just that some think that they are superior to others, gather round them those who they believe would be most gullible to their way of thinking and present them with too much wine.

At the end of the day, Pluto, Mercury or whatever are still exactly the same objects no matter what us Earthlings decide to call it!

No doubt in a few years when the goal posts have been changed yet again we shall find Pluto & half of the asteroid belt being re-classed as planets! There again, perhaps I'm just getting a bit too cynical in my old age!

Old? - ahhh, but in possession of sensible mind when it comes to matters pertaining to the Universe. Little Pluto is aware of the nice things said about it by members of Space talk, and knows that all this will culminate into it being classified as a Planet again.

Don't forget Eris! But, sadly I don't think the IAU is smart and kind enough to do that.
